So at church we watch the promo for Advent Conspiracy - a group of churches dedicated to the idea of bringing the true meaning of Christmas above me, me, me. So, I think we (my family) might do it this year. No presents, or severely limited presents and using the money we would be spending on ourselves, friends, and family for something else. Something nobler, like helping those that cannot help themselves. Reminds me of:
James 1:27 (NIV)
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."Great! Problem is, I was hoping for some big ticket items this Christmas. Bigger problem is that maybe I don't view Christmas as the true celebration of hope and redemption that it is. Yes, I know the true meaning of Christmas in the form of head knowledge. Does my heart know? I'm afraid to ask.

It really makes us think about Christmas differently. Christian and non-Christian alike- people have become so into the presents and the things of Christmas that you can't even tell the two people groups apart. We have forgotten why we celebrate.
I guess we'll be asking God to teach us through this and to mold our hearts. Exciting things are gonna happen- I just know it!
I'm excited, for the first time in a long time- or maybe ever, to go to church every Sunday. To be involved in a community of non-traditional believers, to be convicted, challenged, loved, encouraged, and all of the above.
There is so much wealth and materialism in the USA that it makes me sick to see so many other people without something so essential as clean water.
Sorry for such a long comment- looks like I need to write my own blog ;)
