Advent Conspiracy Theory

Thursday, November 19, 2009

So at church we watch the promo for Advent Conspiracy - a group of churches dedicated to the idea of bringing the true meaning of Christmas above me, me, me. So, I think we (my family) might do it this year. No presents, or severely limited presents and using the money we would be spending on ourselves, friends, and family for something else. Something nobler, like helping those that cannot help themselves. Reminds me of:

James 1:27 (NIV)

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
Great! Problem is, I was hoping for some big ticket items this Christmas. Bigger problem is that maybe I don't view Christmas as the true celebration of hope and redemption that it is. Yes, I know the true meaning of Christmas in the form of head knowledge. Does my heart know? I'm afraid to ask.
